Chapel of Sacred Mirrors with ‘Mixtek Mystics’ - Part 2
I followed Amanda Sage online for many years and when lockdown happened in 2020 she set up an online art studio via zoom called the ‘Non-stop Global Art Jam’. This was a space where artists from all around the world could log in day or night, 24/7 and create together. Even though we were all worlds apart, we were all feeling the trauma of lock-down, but, because of it, it opened up a whole new world of connections and artistic influence. I got to know lots of incredible people and for the next few years grew in friendship with them.
Amanda and I.
When I arrived to COSM I was greeted by some of those very people - Shara, Rosie, Niko, Akemi and Stacey - stepping out from behind a screen on zoom into real life hugs, what a trip! Then I got to hug Amanda and her partner Joebob. It was so surreal to be with them all in person but it also felt normal to be in their presence. No awkwardness just ease and gratitude, so much gratitude.
The next week we were immersed in each others company. All staying on the grounds in the Grey House, eating breakfast, lunch and dinner together. And from 10 a.m to 10 p.m (sometimes midnight) we were in the Art Lab listening and learning, integrating and contemplating. Our theme for painting was ‘Revelations’, painting self portraits from a mirror.
Over the last few years I had studied with Amanda in her online seminars and learned loads. My painting ability and skill level took a steep upward turn and I went from strength to strength. I could finally paint the way I wanted to. But to be standing beside her, shoulder to shoulder, watching in real time!?! Now that was a treat and a blessing. Getting to ask questions as they come up was super special and a huge upgrade. You learn so much more than you do through workshops online.
Here’s a few photo’s of our art space for the week!
The other artists that were there were fabulous, all from diverse backgrounds but having similar outlook and insights on life and the world. Being in such close quarters for the week we made friends fast. Amanda and Joebob held such a safe space that we were able to share ourselves deeply. Encouragement came from every direction and it felt amazing to be there witnessing everyone level up and also to be witnessed as I leveled up too!
Art Lab - Revelations crew all deep in the process! I’m down the back on the right hand side of the photo. Everyones self portraits were so different and diverse but came from their soul and it was a joy to watch each one evolve as the week progressed
I would love to be back there again!!!! One day soon I will make it happen again.
Part 3 coming soon…….
